Australian Guy Pearce has spent nearly his whole life making movies and making music. The movies part we all know about – from playing a drag queen in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (1994), straight-laced detective in LA Confidential (1997), to his role as a genius villain in Iron Man 3 (2013). And who could forget him as Mike Young from Neighbours? Well, apparently me as it was before my time, as he picked up on and joked with me about off-mic. But certainly others knew him from from those early acting days.
It was seeing his Neighbours castmates embark on music careers and suffer the derision that meets such a career change which convinced Guy that he didn’t want to become another actor-turned-musician. Collaborating with percussionist Michael Barker on the theatre production Poor Boy in 2009 changed that, however; Michael helped Guy to overcome his fears and find the courage to put his music out there, come hell or high water.
The result is Broken Bones, Guy’s debut album which came out on 7 November. I was delighted to get ten minutes with Guy to talk Broken Bones and music videos.
Broken Bones is performed, written and produced by Guy Pearce.
