In 1967 The Beatles told us that love is all we need. In 1973 England, Rebecca Budde has the sort of crush on the red haired sort-of guitarist Dave that only a 15 year old girl can have.
But just as she and Dave actually begin to see each other, the Budde family up and move to Brightley village; a place so small and isolated it feels like it’s at the end of the world. It’s here where Rebecca discovers the poetry of the Romantics – and where she befriends a Keats, if not the Keats, who’s also quite fond of writing poems and who is also not quite alive.
I spoke to author and poet Christine Paice about her new novel The Word Ghost earlier this month.
